West Bromwich Albion had reportedly hoped to approach Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder in the summer.

West Brom had been desperate to get Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder in as their next manager in the summer, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (5/5; page 59), but the Baggies’ hopes appear to have been dashed.
Wilder is rightly revelling in the plaudits after guiding the Blades to automatic-promotion to the Premier League, just two years after taking the side out of the third tier.
United still have a chance to complete their season with a Championship title win on the final day of the campaign. But whatever happens, there is no question that Wilder has done an incredible job at Bramall Lane.
And it appears that one of their Championship rivals was more than aware of how well Wilder had done. The Sun on Sunday (5/5; page 59) reports that the Baggies were desperate to appoint Wilder as Darren Moore’s permanent successor at the Hawthorns.

However, with the Blades heading to the top flight, it is difficult to imagine Wilder heading anywhere anytime soon, leaving West Brom to consider other targets.
Of course, the Baggies could well end up joining United in booking a spot in the Premier League next year. James Shan’s men secured their play-off spot several weeks ago and could still finish the season in third place.
