According to a report from The Sun, West Brom have Sam Johnstone on their shortlist should they end up losing Ben Foster to the Premier League this summer.

The Sun reports that Watford are eyeing a £10 million move for Foster, and while the report seems to hint that a move is unlikely with West Brom likely to offer the best opportunity for regular first-team football, it is perhaps a slightly concerning sign that the Baggies are considering potential replacements.

The Sun suggests that Johnstone is one of the stoppers that West Brom have on their radar, but he has a long list of admirers so it would appear that that move may well also be unlikely for various reasons at this stage.

It is not the first time that West Brom have been linked with Johnstone. In December, the Express and Star reported that the Baggies were plotting a potential move, and the goalkeeper – who was on loan at Aston Villa at the time – had told friends that he was heading to The Hawthorns.

If a move did take place, Johnstone would arguably be an excellent replacement for Foster. The latter has been a brilliant servant for the Baggies and would leave a major void if he did move on, but Johnstone has enhanced his reputation significantly during his time with the Villans.

He played a key role in Steve Bruce’s side reaching the play-off final and he is still developing so could perhaps be an ideal option to succeed Foster in the event that the veteran leaves and Johnstone comes in as his replacement.
