West Bromwich Albion are preparing themselves as West Ham United reportedly plot a new bid for Craig Dawson.
Dawson has been heavily linked with a move away from The Hawthorns this summer following their relegation from the Premier League last season, and the Mail reports that the Baggies are preparing themselves for fresh offers from the Hammers and Clarets for the £20 million-rated star.
Kyle Bartley has today arrived on a permanent deal, but it appears that Darren Moore hopes to strengthen his options further with a move for Hefele, who has endured a mixed time with Huddersfield since arriving in 2016.
The 27-year-old played a key role in guiding the Terriers to promotion out of the Championship a year ago, but injury severely restricted the amount of game-time he enjoyed during David Wagner’s side’s first year back in the top flight.
Hefele may be something of a risky signing, but if he can stay fit, then it would arguably be a masterstroke to get the German in as a replacement for Dawson, especially when you consider the kind of finances potentially involved in both deals.
Of course, Bartley and Hefele being paired together at the heart of the West Brom defence could be interesting given that it was the latter’s goal during a Championship clash against Leeds in February 2017 that sparked something of a brawl amongst the two benches that saw most of the two squads – including then-Leeds loanee Bartley – get involved. It was actually the two managers confronting each other that led to the incident, but both players are likely to remember each other from that day.
