West Bromwich Albion are expecting Sam Field to join Queens Park Rangers on a permanent basis this summer, as reported by West London Sport.
But, while both clubs are confident that the transfer will go ahead as planned, there is no 100 per cent guarantee that Field will still be plying his trade at Loftus Road in 2021/22.
There is an option in the on-loan midfielder’s contract; one that would allow QPR to strike a permanent deal if he made 12 Championship starts between January and May.
So far, however, Field has been included in Mark Warburton’s XI on just eight occasions.
And you don’t need Pythagoras to tell you that, with just three league games remaining, Field will not reach that magic number of 12.
Then again, that might not matter.
According to West London Sport, West Brom are still expecting to sell. And QPR, impressed by the way Field has adapted to life in the capital, are expecting to buy.

“I would be very keen and I know he is really enjoying his football here,” Warburton told WLS when asked if Field would stay at Loftus Road for the long-term.
“He has settled very well into the squad. He can play at centre-half in a two or a three and, as he has shown, in midfield.
“He’s 6ft 2in and has that physicality you need, so he ticks a lot of boxes for us.
“I have been delighted with his contribution. I know he is enjoying his football and being around the squad. They have embraced him as a personality so so far, so good.”
Field has just one year left on his West Brom contract.
