West Bromwich Albion have identified Coventry City ace Gustavo Hamer as a key part of their rebuilding project after suffering relegation from the Premier League on Sunday, as reported by The Athletic.
There is a very real chance that all three members of West Brom’s starting midfield could leave The Hawthorns before long.
Conor Gallagher, Okay Yokuslu and Ainsley Maitland-Niles will return to parent clubs Chelsea, Celta Vigo and Arsenal respectively at the end of this month.
So unless West Brom can convince the aforementioned trio to stick around for Tuesday night trips to Luton and Reading, the Midland giants will have little choice but to scour the market for a new central midfielder.
The Athletic reports that Hamer, Coventry’s Brazilian-born Dutchman, is one of the first names on West Brom’s summer wish list.
The 23-year-old play-maker has been a shining light in a hard-working yet rather limited Coventry side, producing five goals and three assists during his debut Sky Blues season. He even scored a 25-yard header against Watford in November; not bad for someone standing at a diminutive 5ft 6ins.

Coventry paid around £1 million to sign Hamer, a one-time Feyenoord youngster, from Eredivisie outfit PEC Zwolle.
You would think they will demand a sizeable profit if West Brom turn their interest into something more serious.
“He will move to the Premier League,” Coventry manager Mark Robins predicted a few months ago, insisting that Hamer would be a player worthy of the top flight if he started to add a consistent end product to his game.
