West Bromwich Albion could pay a £5 million loan fee to sign Karlan Grant from Huddersfield Town with Slaven Bilic making the Championship goal machine his top transfer target, according to the Express and Star.

Considering no-one in the Baggies squad scored more than ten times in the Championship last season, few expected West Brom to find the net with such regularity since returning to the big time.

But West Brom have scored five times in their past two games alone, with Callum Robinson putting Chelsea’s error-strewn back line to the sword during Saturday’s thrilling 3-3 draw.

Nevertheless, Bilic is determined to bring Grant to the Hawthorns before next week’s transfer deadline.

However, with funds tight in the Midlands, West Brom are unwilling to pay the £18 million fee Huddersfield want for Grant – at least not all in one go.

The Express and Star suggests West Brom will offer a £5 million loan fee before paying the remaining £13 million if football’s so-called ‘yo-yo club’ don’t suffer an immediate return to the Championship.

22-year-old Grant was left out of Huddersfield’s squad yet again during Friday’s 1-0 triumph over Nottingham Forest, with Terriers coach Carlos Corberan expecting the former Charlton star to leave before the October deadline.

Grant scored 19 times in a struggling side last season and should find chances easy to come by in a Baggies side containing the creative talents of Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana.
