According to The Sun, West Bromwich Albion are considering a shock January move to sign Aston Villa striker Rudy Gestede.

The Baggies have been a little more expansive under Tony Pulis this season, and whilst they could only find the net once against Hull City on Saturday afternoon, they did hammer Burnley 4-0 on Monday evening.

Even with the likes of Nacer Chadli, James Morrison, Matt Phillips and Salomon Rondon all impressing this term, Pulis appears to be keen on adding more firepower in January – and a raid on a Midlands rival could be on the cards.

The Sun report that Pulis has set his sights on signing Aston Villa striker Rudy Gestede, who has started just twice for Villa since Steve Bruce’s appointment as manager last month.

Gestede, 28, has hit four goals in the Championship this season, whilst Pulis may be impressed with how the Benin international scored five Premier League goals in a poor Villa side last season.

A giant striker at 6ft 4in tall, Gestede possesses superb strength and aerial ability, and fits the mould of a Pulis-type striker, with the idea being that he can fill in for Rondon when needed up front.

It’s claimed that West Brom are now considering a £6m January bid for the former Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City striker, but they don’t appear to be alone in the race for the target man’s signature.

The report states that Hull City are also interested in signing Gestede, and could offer up striker Abel Hernandez in part-exchange, given that the Uruguayan was a key player for Villa boss Bruce at Hull.
