West Bromwich Albion are considering rivalling West Ham for the signature of Eupen starlet Henry Onyekuru.

A report in the Daily Mail has suggested that West Brom are planning to rival West Ham for the signature of one of the brightest prospects in Europe, having made an enquiry for Henry Onyekuru.

Onyekuru enjoyed a sensational season in Belgium, scoring 22 league goals for Eupen. Unsurprisingly, the 20-year-old appears to be attracting plenty of attention, with the Mail suggesting that the Hammers are keen while Arsenal have also been heavily linked with the forward (via The Sun).

And it appears that the Baggies are hoping to sneak in in the running for the Nigerian’s signature, with the Mail reporting that they have made an enquiry for the youngster, who will cost £7.85 million.

It is surely no surprise that Tony Pulis is interested in bringing Onyekuru to the Hawthorns given his performance this past season and the fortunes of the Baggies’ strikers.

Hal Robson-Kanu and Salomon Rondon – West Brom’s two remaining senior strikers following Saido Berahino’s exit back in January – managed just 11 Premier League goals between them this past season.

And given that the Belgian top flight has seen the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Michy Batshuayi emerge onto the scene in recent years, it would hardly be a shock if Pulis is hoping that Onyekuru can become the latest starlet to come from that division who goes on to make a major impact in England.

And if a move does take place and Onyekuru can prove anything like as lethal as Lukaku has, then it will be difficult to suggest that there has been a better £7.85 million deal done in recent years.
