Report: West Brom consider offering Tony Mowbray Hawthorns return

West Bromwich Albion are tempted to try and lure Tony Mowbray back to The Hawthorns during the summer.

According to a report from the Sunday Mirror (15/04; page 60), West Brom are considering offering Tony Mowbray the chance to return to The Hawthorns a decade after he guided the club to promotion out of the Championship.

The Baggies appear to be heading down to the second tier this season. They are 12 points adrift of safety with just five games remaining to turn their situation around, and with Manchester United and Liverpool ahead in their next two fixtures, it appears that it may not be long before what has seemed inevitable for several weeks is confirmed.

The Sunday Mirror (15/04; page 60) reports that current boss Darren Moore will not be getting the job on a full-time basis, and the Baggies hierarchy are considering approaches for the likes of Derek McInnes and Mowbray, who both have previous associations with the club.

Mowbray is currently leading Blackburn Rovers’ promotion charge out of League One, but West Brom are considering trying to tempt him back to the club that he left nine years ago when Celtic came calling.

Would Mowbray be the right man for West Brom?

Mowbray’s final season at The Hawthorns may have ended in relegation, but he did an excellent job during his time with West Brom as they continued their run as a real yo-yo club amongst the top two divisions.

The 54-year-old managed to instil a philosophy that saw the Baggies play an incredibly exciting brand of football, and it also saw the side get results as they were promoted to the Premier League and reached an FA Cup semi-final in the same year.

Signings such as Chris Brunt and James Morrison were made during his tenure, so it is not difficult to see why the board are now looking at Mowbray – especially as his spell at Ewood Park is proving that he is still near the top of his game.

But with Blackburn looking to be in with a good chance of finding themselves in the same division as West Brom next season, it will be interesting to see whether Mowbray deems a return to be the right move if the Baggies do come calling.
