According to a report from the Express and Star, West Brom are interested in Everton midfielder James McCarthy but the Baggies have concerns over the Republic of Ireland international’s fitness.

Darren Moore is seemingly looking to strengthen his options in the middle of the park this month as the Baggies look to keep themselves right in the promotion hunt in the Championship.

The Express and Star reports that McCarthy is one player that he has on his radar, but he has a concern about the 28-year-old that could potentially put West Brom off a move for the midfielder.

The report suggests that McCarthy’s fitness is a worry for Moore. McCarthy has not played since breaking his leg when facing the Baggies last season, so a move would seemingly be a gamble for the second tier high-flyers.

If McCarthy is able to enjoy a good run in the team, he would be a fantastic addition to Moore’s ranks for the rest of the campaign. He unquestionably has the quality to inspire the Baggies to make sure that their stay in the Championship is a brief one.

But judging by the latest reports, it appears that Moore may be tempted to consider other targets while he weighs up whether it is worth taking a gamble on the Toffees’ £13 million signing (fee reported by the Guardian).
