West Bromwich Albion are reportedly interested in signing Nicolas Lombaerts from Zenit Saint Petersburg in the January transfer window.

West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing Nicolas Lombaerts from Zenit Saint Petersburg in the January transfer window, according to The Scottish Sun.

It has been reported that West Brom are close to recruiting Lombaerts from Zenit for a transfer fee of £5 million.

Manager Tony Pulis has reportedly been negotiating with the Russian club for the defender, who is allegedly tempted by a move to The Hawthorns as he has been struggling for playing time since Mircea Lucescu was appointed the manager in May.

The 31-year-old centre-back has won the Russian Premier League four times and the Russian Cup once.

West Brom need to sign a defender in order strengthen their backline and enhance their chances of finishing in the top 10 of the Premier League.

The Baggies are eighth in the league table at the moment with 32 points from 22 matches.

Pulis’s side will return to action on Tuesday evening when they take on Middlesbrough away from home at the Riverside Stadium in the Premier League.
