West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis could be offered an escape route by Championship side Queens Park Rangers, according to the Times.

The future of Pulis, already the bookmakers’ favourite to be the first manager to leave a Premier League club this season, should become clearer once the Baggies’ takeover by Chinese businessman Guochuan Lai goes through.

Confirmation of Lai’s buyout is expected on Thursday, according to the Birmingham Mail, and could present QPR with an opportunity to finally appoint the Welshman, whom they reportedly courted in 2015 upon Harry Redknapp’s departure from Loftus Road.

According to the Times, Pulis sat beside Rangers director of football Les Ferdinand during Tuesday’s 6-0 home defeat by Newcastle United, which heaped pressure on current managerial incumbent, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Hasselbaink’s side have now won just one of their last five league matches, having won their opening two to go top of the Championship.

The Dutchman was only appointed at Loftus Road in December, tasked with arresting the R’s continued slide after they were relegated the previous campaign.

In the ensuing transfer windows, Hasselbaink has worked hard to reduce the club’s budget, replacing a string of big names with cheaper recruits from both the lower leagues and abroad.
