West Bromwich Albion and Everton are both interested in signing the 27-year-old from Manchester United.

A report in The Sun has suggested that Manchester United would rather sell Morgan Schneiderlin to West Brom or Inter Milan than let the Frenchman join Everton during the January transfer window.

The Sun reports that the trio are all chasing the 27-year-old, who has struggled to make an impact for United since Jose Mourinho’s arrival as manager in the summer.

But while it appears that United have few qualms about letting the Frenchman go – The Sun reports that they want to recoup the £24 million they paid for him in 2015 – they are hoping to steer him away from moving to Goodison Park.

The Sun reports that United deem Everton to be potential rivals, so would rather let the former Southampton man move abroad or join the Baggies, who they feel pose less of a threat to them, despite the fact that the two English sides chasing his signature went into Monday’s fixtures separated by just one point and place in the Premier League table.

It does seem slightly strange from United to have concerns about letting Schneiderlin join Everton but be much more willing to give a West Brom switch the green light.

If they felt that Ronald Koeman’s men would be capable of closing the nine point gap to Manchester United by signing Schneiderlin, it perhaps begs the question of why they are letting the holding midfielder leave in the first place.

But with The Sun adding that Schneiderlin would prefer to move to Merseyside, it may perhaps be difficult for United to sell him while also preventing him from joining the Toffees.
