Leeds United are reportedly set to miss out to West Bromwich Albion in the race to sign Mason Holgate.

Leeds may currently have the advantage over West Brom in the Championship promotion race, but the Daily Mail reports that the Baggies are about to get one over on Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

The January transfer window is yet to open, but the Daily Mail reports that West Brom are close to agreeing a deal that will see Mason Holgate join on loan for the rest of the campaign.

The Mail adds that Leeds and Premier League outfit Bournemouth both attempted to scupper the deal late on, but Holgate is heading to The Hawthorns as he looks to impress parent club Everton during the remaining months of the campaign.

Holgate has barely featured for the Toffees this term, but will surely enjoy plenty of game-time with Darren Moore’s side despite their impressive position in the second tier.

West Brom are third in the table, five points behind Leeds, but they have conceded 32 goals in their opening 25 games and have kept just three clean sheets in the league this term.

Holgate could be an excellent addition to their options, and Moore will be hoping that he can make a difference as the Baggies look to catch either Norwich or their reported rivals for his signature, Leeds.
