West Bromwich Albion are keen to bring former loanee Daniel Sturridge back to the Hawthorns with relegation rivals Sheffield United also keen on the free-agent striker, as reported by 90Min.
There’s little doubt that, if he can stay fit, Sturridge would be a superb addition to a club who need points and goals if they are to retain their place in the Premier League.
That, however, is an ‘if’ the size of the Siberian desert.
There’s a reason why Sturridge is a free agent at the age of only 31 – and it has nothing to do with his ability.
In fact, the former Liverpool talisman remains one of the most naturally talented British footballers of his generation.
But, after a series of fitness problems wrecked his once-glittering Anfield career, Sturridge is desperate to make up for lost time.
90Min claims the 26-time England international, who was released after a short spell at Trabzonspor 11 months ago, is keen to prove he can still make a difference in the Premier League.
West Brom and Sheffield United, two of the division’s lowest scorers, are both willing to take a punt on Sturridge.

The report adds Newcastle United have also been approached by the striker’s representatives, after talismanic top scorer Callum Wilson was ruled out for up to two months.
Given that Newcastle have no places left in their 25-man squad, however, it seems the shutters are down at St James’ Park.
Interestingly, Allardyce wanted Sturridge as far back as 2009, demanding the then-Manchester City youngster in exchange for Blackburn Rovers ace Roque Santa Cruz (Guardian).
None other than Virgil van Dijk, meanwhile, described his former Liverpool teammate as “world class” as recently as 2018.
West Brom fans won’t need reminding, however, that Sturridge failed to score a goal as the Baggies were relegated in 2017/18, his loan spell at the Hawthorns not exactly going to plan.
