Report: West Brom and Palace among clubs battling for Sheffield Wednesday’s Gary Hooper in January

The Sheffield Wednesday forward is said to be attracting interest from Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and Brighton and Hove Albion.

According to the Sun, Sheffield Wednesday forward Gary Hooper is a January transfer target for three Premier League clubs in the form of West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Owls front man has been in impressive form so far this season, scoring eight goals in 12 appearances and firing Wednesday to within four points of the play-off spots prior to the international break.

While Wednesday still have plenty of work to do, Hooper’s efforts cannot be understated and it seems top flight sides have been paying close attention.

Of all the alleged suitors, Palace are in most need of a new goal-scorer after their diabolical start to the new campaign. The Eagles are yet to find the net in seven games and unsurprisingly sit bottom of the pile as a result.

Brighton are also on the look-out for a new front man but perhaps the most enticing prospect for Hooper could be moving to West Brom, who have made some fine additions and look set to challenge in the top half of the Premier League between now and May.

Much depends on how much any interested club offers Wednesday, who will know that any play-off hopes rest with the goals they would have to replace if Hooper moved on.

For that reason alone a transfer seems unlikely, but money talks and Premier League clubs have more than ever.

West Brom especially have spent well and have more in the kitty if the right player comes along, but Wednesday fans have a while to wait before they face up to the prospect of losing one of their key players.
