Ahmed Hegazy has enjoyed an excellent 2017 and has reportedly been scouted by both West Bromwich Albion and Hull City.
Egypt’s Ahmed Hegazy
Considering that Egypt are the most successful team in the history of the African Cup of Nations, winning the continental tournament on seven occasions, it’s something of a surprise that few players from the country have graced the Premier League.
Only three, Ahmed Elmohamady, Mohamed Elneny and Ramadan Sobhi featured in England’s top flight last season. Though they could be joined in England by one of the most talented Egyptian players of his generation.
According to King Fut, West Brom sent scouts to watch central-defender Ahmed Hegazy in action for Al Ahly a fortnight ago and were suitably impressed by his performance.
And the report adds that Hull City boss Leonid Slutsky was also spotted in the stands as the ‘Egyptian Nesta’ took on Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions League.
This maintains what has been an impressive 2017 for Hegazy after being included in the African Cup of Nations team of the tournament after helping Egypt reach yet another final, albeit one they lost against Cameroon.
Hegazy has been likened to AC Milan and Italy legend Alessandro Nesta
And it appears that the 26-year-old is set for a second stint in Europe having represented Italian giants Fiorentina for three seasons until returning to Al Ahly in 2015.
The 39-time international only featured in three Serie A games for La Viola but his development since suggests he’d play a much bigger role for West Brom or Hull.

Links with The Baggies are particularly intriguing. West Brom’s desire for a new centre-back is clear with the club linked with marquee moves for the likes of Ben Gibson or John Terry in recent weeks.
However, Hegazy would be a far cheaper option.
