West Bromwich Albion are looking for their next manager, and are reportedly admiring the work that Alex Neil is doing in the Championship.

West Brom may have made an approach for Slavisa Jokanovic, but the Daily Mail is also reporting that the Baggies board are also admirers of Preston North End boss Alex Neil.

The promotion-chasers are on the lookout for Darren Moore’s successor after parting company with their former defender over the weekend in the wake of their 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town that leaves West Brom fourth in the Championship, nine points off the automatic-promotion spots.

The Mail reports that the Baggies want their next manager in place by the time they face Swansea City on Wednesday, and an approach for Jokanovic has been made with further talks to be held on Monday.

However, if their move for the former Fulham and Watford boss goes nowhere, perhaps there is a chance that they may make a move for one of their Championship rivals.

The Mail adds that some of the West Brom board are admirers of the work that Neil has done at Deepdale, as well as the job that he did at Norwich City to guide them to promotion to the Premier League.

Preston have more than an outside chance of making the play-off places in the second tier this season. They sit four points off the top six with 10 games remaining, and they have not lost a league game since New Year’s Day.

It remains to be seen whether West Brom decide to make a move for Neil at any stage, but it would be interesting to know what decision the Scot would make if the Baggies do come calling.

He is doing a superb job with Preston, and perhaps they could end up facing each other in the play-offs in a couple of months. But there may not be too many managers in the division who would be able to justify turning down West Brom.
