Report: Werder Bremen in talks with Everton for Davy Klaassen

Klaassen’s future at Everton is up in the air after a change in manager.

German outlet Kreiszeitung have claimed that Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen are in talks to sign Everton midfielder Davy Klaassen this summer, for a bargain fee.

The 25-year-old has been targeted by Werder after they lost star man Thomas Delaney to Borussia Dortmund, following the Denmark World Cup star’s excellent campaign during 2017-18.

Werder need to replace the midfield talisman and it seems as though Everton flop Klaassen is their number one priority, as his future at Everton looks to be all but over – despite the change in management.

Klaassen joined Everton after captaining Ajax to a Europa League final, but he failed to prove his £25million transfer fee and made just seven Premier League appearances all season.

Now, the report claims Everton are willing to sell the midfielder for less than half of that figure, at just £11.6million despite being given a chance in pre-season under new manager Marco Silva.

Everton boast a number of options in the middle of the park in Tom Davies, Idrissa Gueye, Morgan Schneiderlin, Mo Besic, Beni Baningime and James McCarthy, so losing Klaassen would not be a devastating blow.

What Silva and Everton must consider, is if they believe that Klaassen is incapable of recreating the kind of form that saw him shine for Ajax and earn a £25million move to Everton in the first place. If not, then a move to Werder looks on the cards.
