This week saw a surprising transfer story emanate from Tottenham Hotspur. It was claimed that Spurs were ready to make a move for Manchester City outcast Eliaquim Mangala – with Austrian defender Kevin Wimmer set to be heading out of the exit door.

Wimmer impressed when given his chance last season, after Jan Vertonghen picked up a knee injury. but appears to have fallen behind American youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers in the pecking order.

Now it is being reported that a team in the Bundesliga could rekindle their interest in the player.

Wimmer, who only signed a new deal at Spurs in July, was linked with Werder Bremen earlier this summer and, according to Kleine Zeitung, they are open to rekindling their interest in the signature of the Austrian centre-back.

Bremen need to bring in a new defender and Wimmer would be a top option for the Bundesliga club.

Spurs would seem unlikely to let Wimmer go unless a replacement, such as Mangala, is brought in.

But after impressing for Spurs last term it certainly seems odd that the club might move him on. Bremen will love to capitalise.
