West Bromwich Albion are considering selling Jake Livermore to help fund a move for Watford’s Troy Deeney.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, West Brom’s hopes of landing Troy Deeney have received a boost with the Watford striker open to considering a move to The Hawthorns, but it may see the Baggies sell one of their key players to help fund a deal.

Deeney has endured a fairly frustrating season for the Hornets so far. The 29-year-old has made 15 Premier League appearances this term, but has started just eight times and the Mail reports that Marco Silva may be prepared to let him move on.

The Mail adds that Deeney will not come cheap however, with Watford wanting £25 million for the forward – and that is clearly going to prove a problem for a West Brom side that are yet to make their first signing of the January transfer window.

The Mail suggests that Premier League interest in Jake Livermore and Jonny Evans could be taken advantage of to help fund a potential move for Deeney – who is interested in joining Alan Pardew’s side as he still has a home in the Midlands.

While Evans’ future has looked uncertain for much of the window, the report linking Livermore with a potential move away may surprise some supporters.

The midfielder only joined in a £10 million deal last January – fee reported by BBC Sport – and while his form has been inconsistent since arriving, there have been times when he has looked very impressive, so letting him leave may perhaps be a gamble given that Gareth Barry is into the twilight of his career and the largely frustrating Grzegorz Krychowiak is only at the club on loan.

With Deeney hardly prolific this season – he has scored twice in the Premier League – it will be interesting to know what West Brom fans may think of the prospect of their club spending £25 million on a deal with the club so precariously placed in the top flight right now, especially as it appears that they may have to sell two important players to fund the pursuit.
