According to the Daily Mail, Watford are looking to snap up West Ham United defender Jeremy Ngakia as he continues to resist a new contract.

Ngakia’s contract ends this summer, and West Ham have been fighting to keep him. However, he has not only snubbed a new long-term deal, but also an offer to stay short-term.

It currently seems that Ngakia will leave at the end of the month rather than stay to finish the suspended Premier League season. West Ham now allegedly plan to hold further talks with Ngakia, in the hope of convincing him into a U-turn.

If that doesn’t happen, then clubs are queueing up to sign him. Bundesliga side Schalke want him, and would have to pay just £260,000 in compensation due to being a non-English club.

Watford are also keen, which is a little more interesting. Because they’re an English side, they would have to pay considerable compensation to sign the 19-year-old at the end of his deal.

The 19-year-old has already made four Premier League appearances, and having spent his entire time in the West Ham ranks, the Hammers would be in a strong position to demand high compensation.

Seeing him leave for another Premier League club would be tough to swallow for West Ham, but if Ngakia feels he will play regularly with the Hornets, he may well be tempted to make the short move to Hertfordshire.
