Slavisa Jokanovic could be set for a second spell at Watford with 90Min claiming that the Premier League strugglers have identified a former Hornets boss as Nigel Pearson’s replacement.

Ten months ago, the Hertfordshire outfit delved into their past to bring a popular figure back to Vicarage Road.

But just ten games, one win and a matter of weeks later, Quique Sanchez Flores was packing his bags again, departing amid a flurry of furious jabs aplenty at the club’s famously trigger-happy Pozzo ownership.

They do say ‘never go back’, after all.

And, after a season in which Watford have sacked three different managers, perhaps Jokanovic should be reminded of that tired old cliché with the Hornets set to come calling once again.

90min claim that the gravel voiced gaffer, who is now in charge of Al Gharafa, feels he has unfinished business at Watford and retains a positive relationship with the club’s bosses.

Then again, so did Sanchez Flores when he returned to British shores in September 2019.

Jokanovic is something of a modern-day legend at Watford, leading the club back into the big time five years ago after they finished second in the Championship table.

The Serbian would walk away just days later however after a new contract could not be agreed.

Could that be a worrying sign about things to come, with reports suggesting that relegation-threatened Watford could turn to another familiar face?

At least if they do drop into the Championship, they will have a coach with a brilliant track record in the second tier.
