The 30-year-old has been at Schalke since 2013, and gives Watford another defensive option to consider.

Watford seem set to bolster their defensive ranks with the signing of-12 time Germany international Dennis Aogo from Schalke 04, with the left back arriving on a free transfer, as reported by Bild and covered by talkSPORT.

The 30-year-old left back hasn’t had an overly brilliant times of things in Gelsenkirchen this season, making just 17 appearances in all competitions, though he did manage to get his name on the scoresheet twice and claim one assist.

It’s thought that Aogo was happy to leave Schalke following events this season from a personal perspective, though the team didn’t fare brilliantly by their standards either, with Schalke finishing their Bundesliga campaign in 10th.

Aogo, who can also play in central midfield as well as down the left flank further up the pitch, would be Marco Silva’s first signing at Vicarage Road if all parties involved can make the deal happen, with the former Hull City boss looking to leave his stamp on the team.

It will be interesting to see how Silva moulds his team at Vicarage Road, and whether his team has a place for Watford talisman Troy Deeney, who seemed a disgruntled figure towards the end of the 2016/17 season.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Watford would be willing to sell Deeney for a fee of around £35m, but whether Silva plans to keep him around or offload him remains to be seen.
