According to All Nigerian Soccer, Watford have decided to pull out of the race to sign Chelsea striker Ike Ugbo this summer.

The Hornets are back in the Premier League and seeking reinforcements, with Nigerian attacker Emmanuel Dennis arriving from Club Brugge.

Add in that Ashley Fletcher has joined on a free transfer from Middlesbrough and Watford may not be in the market for another striker this summer.

Watford’s interest in Ugbo

Watford were first linked with Ugbo back in April, with All Nigeria Soccer reporting that talks had been opened for the Chelsea talent.

The Hornets allegedly felt they had a great chance of signing Ugbo thanks to a strong relationship with his representative Collins John – a former Watford striker himself – but no move will happen.

Ugbo could still leave Chelsea this summer, with Eintracht Frankfurt and Genk both thought to be keen, but Watford are pulling out.

How did Ugbo perform last season?

Ugbo, 22, has been on the Chelsea books for 14 years now, but has yet to make an appearance for the Blues, instead featuring out on loan.

After 13 goals in 29 games on loan at Roda JC, Ugbo headed to Belgium last season and smashed 17 goals in 34 appearance, enhancing his reputation again.

Ugbo turns 23 in September and needs to find a settled home, but it doesn’t look like that will come with Watford any time soon.
