Watford are ready to bid for the Burnley striker Sam Vokes if Troy Deeney is sold, according to the Daily Mirror (liveblog entry 11:13).

The report claims Watford could cash in on Deeney, who captains the Hornets but only managed six goals in 31 games last season.

And Vokes is said to be among their targets to replace him, as he approaches the final year of his Burnley contract next month.

Should the Wales international head to Vicarage Road, he could reunite with Andre Gray – his former Clarets strike partner.

Gray made the same move a year ago at a reported cost of £18 million, although his Watford future is also uncertain after a disappointing first season in Hertfordshire.

The pair scored 62 goals between then in two seasons as Burnley gained promotion back to the Premier League and stayed there the following campaign.

Could Vokes follow Gray to Watford this summer?
