Watford are the favourites ahead of Newcastle to sign Kieran Gibbs from Arsenal.

New Watford manager Marco Silva is looking to make Kieran Gibbs a priority signing this summer as the left-back’s Arsenal exit looks more inevitable.

The Sun reports that Silva is hoping to capitalise on Gibbs’ uncertainty about game time at the Emirates Stadium to sign him for the Hornets.

However, there are still some issues to be addressed, most prominently the fact that the Gunners are looking for £15m for the 27-year-old – something the Hertfordshire club are not prepared to pay, especially as the full-back is about to enter the final year of his current contract.

Yet with Nacho Monreal and new signing Saed Kolasinac currently in North London, there seems to be increasingly less need for Gibbs as an option on the left side of defence.

Watford’s jump to the front of the queue for the England international could be bad news for Newcastle United, who as football.london reports, were interested in bringing the defender to St James’ Park.

However, with their competitors unsure about the price, the Magpies could still have some negotiating power when it comes to signing Gibbs.
