Watford are ‘looking seriously’ at Sunderland striker Joel Asoro in a ‘surprise move’, according to the Sun on Sunday [February 25th, page 65].

Asoro, who scored in Sunderland’s 3-3 draw against Middlesbrough on Saturday, has been one of the few bright sparks in another dismal campaign for the Mackems, who remain bottom of the Championship.

But Sunderland could be powerless to prevent the 18-year-old’s departure this summer, amid mounting debts and with League One football looking likely next season.

Watford, however, may not be alone should they opt to pursue Asoro’s signature, with Arsenal, Everton and Paris Saint-Germain among the clubs to have been credited with interest in the Sweden Under-21 star this past year.

Sunderland and Watford have already done business once this year, with midfielder Didier Ndong swapping the Stadium of Light for Vicarage Road on loan until the summer – a deal which could yet become permanent.

How much is Asoro worth after his two goals and one assist from seven league starts this season?
