It was widely expected that Sam Johnstone would leave Manchester United to join Aston Villa this summer…

According to an article on BleacherReport, Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is now a transfer target of Watford.
The Hornets are looking for a new stopper this summer, following the arrival of Marco Silva as manager.
And Johnstone has reportedly impressed Silva, with his performances at Aston Villa this season.

Villa had Johnstone on loan from United from January until the end of the campaign, and he made a big impression at Villa Park.
It was widely expected that the 24-year-old would make the move to Villa this summer.
However, reports of Watford’s interest throw Johnstone’s proposed switch to Villa into some serious doubt.

The claret and blues are operating with a sell-before-you-buy policy this summer, and they are starting to fall under pressure to sell some of their fringe players to raise money.
Villa have already missed out on Marley Watkins to Norwich City, and unless they act quickly they could be in danger of losing out in the race for Johnstone’s signature too.
