Watford are interested in signing James McCarthy from Everton in the summer transfer window, according to The Sun on Sunday (print edition, page 61, May 21, 2017).
It has been reported by the British tabloid that Watford are keeping tabs on the 26-year-old midfielder who has fallen down the pecking order at Goodison Park.
According to the report, Newcastle United are also interested in the Republic of Ireland international, but the Hornets are ready to make a move for him.
The Daily Mail recently reported of West Ham United and Crystal Palace’s interest in McCarthy, with Everton claimed to willing to sell him for £20 million.
Good signing?
McCarthy is a good player and has proven Premier League experience, but is he worth £20m? Probably not.
While it would be smart of Watford to sign the former Wigan Athletic midfielder in the summer transfer window, £20m would be too much to pay.
If the Hornets are able to convince to Everton to lower their demands, then they should certainly sign McCarthy.
