Report: Watford in talks to sign Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong

Watford are interested in signing Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong in the January transfer window.

According to reports from Sky Sports (live blog feed; 15/01/2018 – 11:46 am), Watford are in talks with the Championship club Sunderland to sign midfielder Didier Ndong.

The 23-year-old joined the Black Cats from Lorient in 2016 for a reported fee of £13.6 million. The Gabon international has barely featured this season, and has been linked with a move away from the Stadium of Light.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Watford and West Ham are hoping to prise him away for around £8 million.

Watford have made a loan offer with the obligation of buying him permanently in the summer, provided he plays in 75% of their remaining matches.

Sunderland are not entertaining a loan move, and they have made it clear that they won’t do a deal unless the obligation to buy is independent of game time.

Sky Sports is now reporting that Watford are in talks with Sunderland for the midfielder, but it remains unclear whether they are planning to sign him permanently.

The report adds that French club Toulouse are also interested in signing Ndong.
