Former Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell has reportedly impressed Watford manager Javi Gracia.

Jack Rodwell did not have a great time at Sunderland over the past two seasons, as the 27-year-old former Everton and Manchester City midfielder suffered back-to-back relegations with the Black Cats.

Rodwell was part of the Sunderland team that got relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2016-17 campaign, and then went down from the Championship to League One at the end of the 2017-18 season.

The English midfielder was able to make just 17 starts in the Premier League in 2016-17 and played just 104 minutes of Championship football last season.

With Rodwell earning £73,000 per week salary and Sunderland now in League One, there was no surprise when the midfielder and the Black Cats mutually decided to terminate the contract last month, as reported by The Daily Mail.

Premier League opportunity

The former Everton midfielder, though, could soon be playing in the Premier League. According to The Daily Mail, Watford are interested in the 27-year-old midfielder’s services.

It has been reported that Rodwell has impressed Watford manager Javi Gracia during training and that the Hornets are discussing a contract offer for the 27-year-old.

Taking the chance

Rodwell may have struggled to make a huge impact for Sunderland in recent years, but there is no doubt that the midfielder is a good and capable footballer, and he could flourish at Watford.
