Watford are said to be interested in Liverpool’s marginalised Spaniard.

Watford are front runners for Liverpool fullback Alberton Moreno, according to the Liverpool Echo. The Spanish international lost his place to midfielder James Milner last season and is virtually third choice after the arrival of Andrew Robertson from Hull City.

The report also suggests that the Spain international might complete the deal in time for him to face Liverpool in the first game of their season. According to the BBC, the Reds have already rejected a bid from Napoli earlier in the window and are holding out for a fee of around £15m for the Spanish defender.

Moreno, incidentally, had a very impressive game against German champions Bayern Munich which led manager Jurgen Klopp to tell Liverpool Echo, “If he (Alberto Moreno) plays like he did today then yeah [he has a chance of playing]”. But, despite that, the former Sevilla man would undoubtedly be looking for more game time after just 12 appearances in the Premier League last season.

Watford need a left back to provide cover and competition for José Holebas, and new manager Marco Silva would undoubtedly be looking to add to his defensive ranks. The advantage of having Moreno in the squad is he can also be used as a winger, with Holebas behind him if the likes of Roberto Pereyra pick up injuries.

All in all, it is a win-win situation for club and player.
