Championship rivals Watford and Middlesbrough are interested in signing £14 million forgotten man Abdul Baba Rahman from Chelsea, according to Goal.
It is hard to believe now that, back in the summer of 2015, the Premier League giants appeared to have pulled off an almighty coup when they signed a 21-year-old Ghanaian from Augsburg.
Five years ago, Baba Rahman had scouts all over Europe drooling with his explosive performances on German soil.
Blessed with pinpoint crossing ability and the sort of pace that would sear your eyebrows clean off, a 21-year-old frequently compared to a young Gareth Bale appeared to have a one-way ticket to stardom in his back pocket.
Flash forward to the present day, however, and you’d be forgiven for forgetting that Baba Rahman is still a Chelsea player.
Guus Hiddink was in charge at Stamford Bridge the last time the now-26-year-old made a Premier League appearance, starting alongside Nemanja Matic, Bertrand Traore and Branislav Ivanovic in a 1-1 draw with Leicester City.
And, after loan spells at Schalke, Reims and Real Mallorca, Goal reports that Baba Rahman could be farmed out again – this time to the Championship.
Middlesbrough are interested, as are a Watford side who have failed to replace Jose Holebas despite being linked with a whole host of left-backs recently.
“Baba is really good with the ball, he’s very fast but he’s learning how to play this game. He’s learning how we play, how we defend,” Jose Mourinho said back in 2015.
“But he’s a good player for sure and we trust him.”
