Ex-Rangers defender David Bates could reunite with his former Ibrox boss Mark Warburton.
According to The Scottish Sun, Queens Park Rangers boss Mark Warburton now wants a reunion with his former Rangers defender David Bates after missing out on Scott McKenna.
The R’s produced a fine display to beat Stoke 2-1 on the first day of the season, raising hopes that Warburton can build something special at Loftus Road.
Despite snapping up Yoann Barbet, Warburton is now looking for another centre back, but a £3million move for Aberdeen’s McKenna has fallen short.
Now, it’s claimed that Warburton wants to reunite with his ex-Rangers defender Bates, who is currently over in Germany with second tier Hamburg.
Warburton brought Bates to Rangers in 2016, but the 22-year-old only made his league debut for the club after Warburton’s exit from Ibrox in 2017.
The 6ft 4in centre back decided to trade Rangers for Hamburg last summer, and whilst he became something of a cult hero for fans, he may head back to Britain soon.
Warburton has already signed a number of players he worked with at Rangers, as Liam Kelly, Lee Wallace and Dominic Ball have all signed, with QPR now hoping to make Bates the next addition.
That would be something of an ambitious move, as it’s less than a year since the Sunday Mirror (October 21st, page 67) reported that Arsenal and Everton wanted him in the Premier League, which may well leave R’s fans excited about a move.
