Barcelona’s Andre Gomes – wanted by Tottenham and West Ham in August – has been offered an escape route.
According to the Daily Mail, Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes has been offered to Premier League clubs as he plots a January exit.
Gomes, 24, starred with Benfica in his native Portugal before earning a move to Valencia in 2014, and his two years at the Estadio Mestalla saw him become hot property.
A move to Barcelona followed in 2016, and whilst Gomes was expected to grow into a key midfielder for Barca, that simply hasn’t happened.
Gomes received plenty of criticism last term, and has started just two league games this season, with manager Ernesto Valverde clearly not a fan.
Now, the Daily Mail report that Gomes has been offered to a number of Premier League clubs as Barcelona attempt to offload him before the end of the January transfer window.
It remains to be seen whether any teams make concrete moves for Gomes this month, but two teams did attempt to sign him in August; Tottenham and West Ham United.
As reported by ESPN, Tottenham had seemingly beaten West Ham to Gomes’ signature, taking him on loan for the season on deadline day in August – but Barcelona changed their mind at the last minute and kept him at the Camp Nou.
With a new move for Philippe Coutinho seemingly on the horizon, Gomes could slip further down the pecking order, and it would be little surprise to see Spurs and West Ham renew their interest in the Portuguese international this month.
