Nottingham Forest may struggle to move Ben Watson and Liam Bridcutt off the club’s books in January due to their wages, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (25/11; page 60), with potential loan exits seemingly more likely.

Watson has not featured in the Championship for more than a month, while Bridcutt is able to count on one hand how many minutes he has spent on the pitch in the league this season.

The Sun on Sunday (25/11; page 60) reports that Karanka is ready to allow both to leave the City Ground as he looks for additional funds for his January transfer kitty. But the report adds that there may be a problem.

The Sun suggests that the pair are on good money and that could force Forest to subsidise some of their wages during potential loan moves.

As the report notes, that could have a negative impact on Karanka’s funds during the winter window.

But given Forest’s current form, perhaps they may not need a lot of spending money in a couple of months. Karanka’s side sit seventh in the table and have won three and drawn two of their last five Championship fixtures – and one of those draws was the incredibly controversial point at Leeds in October.

In fact, their only league defeat since the first weekend of September came against the current league leaders. So while they may be outside the play-offs currently, Forest certainly appear to have the kind of momentum that a couple of the teams above them would be envious of.
