Glasgow Rangers defender Bruno Alves may be waiting a while longer if he is hoping to secure a move away from Ibrox this summer.

Alves endured a difficult first season with the Scottish Premiership side. On his day, he has shown his class and proved why he is approaching his century of caps for his century. However, the Ibrox faithful have also seen a completely different side of the 36-year-old at various points.

The Record reports that Rangers were offered the chance to move Alves on this summer with Vitoria eyeing a deal for the centre-back. However, the Gers were needed to make something happen.
The Record suggests that Alves has one year left on his deal in Scotland and Rangers would have needed to agree to release the veteran with a pay-off that would have meant that Vitoria would not need to meet his £28,000-a-week wage demands – something that they could not afford to do.

Alves may have struggled during his first year with the Gers, but it could be argued that he could certainly have a role to play next term given that Steven Gerrard’s side currently lack options at the heart of the defence.
It is an issue that he will be looking to address, of course, but if he can get Alves playing his best football on a much more regular basis next season, then perhaps the defender could end up feeling like a new signing and leaving Gers fans delighted that he was not allowed to leave this summer.
