Are Aston Villa being unrealistic asking for the same amount for Jack Grealish as Norwich want for James Maddison?

Aston Villa may be forced to sell Jack Grealish this summer in order to make up the £45m deficit that would see them break Financial Fair Play rules, according to the Daily Mail.

Villa’s 1-0 defeat to Fulham in the Championship playoff final and failure to earn promotion back to the Premier League has serious financial implications for the Birmingham club.

Captain John Terry has already announced he is leaving Villa Park with his contract having expired, saving around £6million a year, while the Villans are hoping to receive in excess of £25million if Grealish does leave.

Everton, Leicester City and West Ham United have all shown early interest in the 22-year-old, who is being valued at around the same price as Norwich City ace James Maddison.

Fair or overly ambitious?

There is no doubting that Grealish has been one of the standout stars in Steve Bruce’s team this season and is finally starting to realise the early promise he showed after breaking through from the academy.

Yet has the midfielder, who scored three goals and provided six assists in 31 matches in all competitions, really been on the same level as Maddison in 2017/18?

After all, the 21-year-old Norwich starlet, unlike Grealish, was named in the EFL team of the year after scoring 14 goals and providing eight assists in 44 league games – attracting interest from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, as outlined by Goal, as a result.
