Aston Villa are waiting for Jack Grealish to make his decision on his future before making a move for Mikkel Damsgaard.
According to SampNews24, Dean Smith’s side are playing the waiting game on the Danish international, with Grealish at the centre of the transfer.
As per the report, the departure of the Villa captain will be what triggers the ‘decisive’ move for Damsgaard.
The 21-year-old attacker is valued by Sampdoria at €35m (£30m) and is a target for multiple sides this window.
Tottenham have been credited with an interest in Damsgaard, whilst Villa have only just entered the race for the Scandinavian talent.
Damsgaard was one of the breakout stars of Euro 2020 as his stunning free-kick against England was one of the goals of the tournament.

Indeed, with Sampdoria needing to sell this summer, the Danish star will likely depart this window.
But, a move from Villa will depend on what happens with Grealish. The playmaker has been in talks with Manchester City over the past week. However, rumours are circulating that the Premier League star will now remain with his boyhood club.

However, Damsgaard would be a suitable replacement for Grealish should the club captain depart for the Premier League champions this window.
Damsgaard’s creativity and silky glide on the ball have made him a top prospect in Italy.
And although the Dane is fairly raw, the Sampdoria winger could develop into an outstanding player if coached correctly and given the license to play his game.
