Aston Villa’s U-23 match against Charlton Athletic was reportedly watched by up to 50 scouts last night, with three players making good cases to win a loan deal.
According to the Athletic, Cameron Archer, Caleb Chukwuemeka, and Jaden Philogene-Bidace caught the eye of scouts in their 2-1 loss to the Addicks. The result brings an end to Villa’s EFL Trophy run, with the competition proving beneficial for the club’s academy players.
The likes of Archer and Chukwuemeka have benefited hugely from the EFL Trophy this season. And with January around the corner, many of Villa’s youngsters will no doubt be on the radar for EFL clubs.
As per the report, though, it was Archer, Chukwuemeka and Philogene-Bidace who impressed scouts on the night, with the trio likely to be targeted in the winter. Given their potential, it is likely that Steven Gerrard will be open to letting them leave on loan.
Indeed, this current crop of Villa players is one of the most exciting coming out of the club in some time. Archer has already shined at first-team level in the EFL Cup, with the teenager scoring against Chelsea. Whilst Aaron Ramsey and Carney Chukwuemeka are established members of the senior team.
With Philogene-Bidace and Finley Thorndike also regarded as huge talents, there could be several loan departures in January for Villa. And given their form in competitions this season, interest will be high in many players.
Villa need to be smart with who leaves on loan in January

With so many promising talents on their books, Villa need to act wisely in who is allowed to depart on loan in January. Yet given some standout performances from the likes of Archer and Philogene-Bidace, these two, as well as Chukwuemeka, could be the most likely to leave.
Whilst the trio could benefit from learning under new first-team manager Gerrard, professional minutes is the most important thing these three Villa talents can get, and going out on loan to an EFL side in January will be perfect for their development.
