If Aston Villa are to have any hope of signing Robert Snodgrass from West Ham United on a permanent basis then they must seal promotion to the Premier League, reports Birmingham Live.

Snodgrass has been hugely impressive for the Villans since joining them on a season-long loan deal back in August, scoring eight goals and providing 13 assists – the most in the Championship – in 33 league matches since.

In fact the 30-year-old did so well in the first half of the campaign after falling out of favour at the London Stadium under Slaven Bilic, that Bilic’s successor, David Moyes, tried to recall the winger in January.

Unfortunately for Moyes but luckily for Villa, there was a watertight clause in the deal that was signed when Snodgrass made the switch that meant the loan could not be ended early.

However, that will not keep the Scotland international at Villa Park beyond the summer unless the Birmingham club can end their two-year stay in the second tier and return to the top flight.

Steve Bruce’s men are currently fourth in the table and seven points off second-placed Cardiff City and the automatic promotion places with eight games left to play.
