According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa are rivalling West Ham United for Nottingham Forest fullback Matty Cash after seeing an initial £10 million bid rejected.

Cash proved to be a revelation for Forest this past season.

The Reds ace predominantly came through the ranks as a midfielder, but manager Sabri Lamouchi deployed him at right-back where he really began to excel.

Cash posted three goals and five assists in 40 Championship starts in 2019-20.

The Express and Star claim Villa saw a £10 million approach turned down.

Now, Sky Sports say the Villans are preparing a second offer while West Ham and Sheffield United have also lodged bids for the coveted 23-year-old.

Villa preserved their Premier League status on the final day of the campaign.

Dean Smith’s side pulled off a minor miracle. However, with little business done so far this summer, they could be in for another struggle if they fail to strengthen.

The right-back slot at Villa was often shared between Frederic Guilbert and Ahmed El Mohamady, with neither doing quite enough to nail down a consistent place.

Cash represents a long-term solution. Moreover, considering his age and raw ability, he would arrive at Villa Park as a player with a potentially high re-sale value.

Forest know interest in him is strong as they hope to drive a bidding war.

The Reds just missed out on a playoff spot last term. Now, they may be thinking that a £15 million fee for Cash could seriously help them bolster other areas of the team.
