Aston Villa are prepared to outbid Newcastle United in the race to sign Callum Wilson, the Northern Echo report.

Villa and Newcastle both want to sign Wilson this summer, but the claret and blues’ offer could be more appealing to Bournemouth.

Dean Smith’s side are apparently willing to give Bournemouth more money up-front for Wilson than Newcastle would be prepared to do.

Newcastle, though, are said to have made Matt Ritchie available, which could appeal to Bournemouth.

Both Steve Bruce and Smith seem to have made signing a striker one of their top priorities this season, with Newcastle and Villa struggling to find a goalscorer last term.

Neither of the clubs managed to find a player who got into double figures for goals, so Wilson’s appeal is obvious.

The England international, who is valued at around £20 million (BBC Sport), has been a regular goal getter for Bournemouth over a number of seasons, and whoever gets him will feel much happier with their attacking options for the upcoming campaign.
