Aston Villa want to sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid this summer, the Telegraph report.
Dean Smith has made bringing in a new right-back one of his top priorities this term, as Villa look to bolster their defensive options.
Villa conceded more goals than any side other than Norwich City in the Premier League last term, and Smith realises that he needs to his team to tighten up at the back if they are to be successful.
Trippier now looks like an extremely ambitious target, after his impressive season with Atleti.
Villa would be willing to take the England international on a permanent deal or a loan one, but whether they can strike an agreement with his current club remains to be seen.
Trippier has impressed in Spain and still remains part of England’s plans for the European Championships next summer.

Indeed, Gareth Southgate is known to be a big fan of the right-back, as he raved about him back in June 2018, during the World Cup.
“His quality on the ball is outstanding,” Southgate told TalkSPORT.
Trippier’s form last time he was in the Premier League actually dipped with Tottenham Hotspur.
That led to Spurs selling him for £20 million (Telegraph), but after working with Diego Simeone for a season, Trippier appears to have become an even more solid option.
And if Villa could get a deal over the line he should be an upgrade on any of the current right-back options they have in their squad.
