Aston Villa could make Thierry Henry their new manager.
According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa have talked about moving for either Slaven Bilic of Paulo Sousa – but Nassef Sawiris is pushing for Thierry Henry to land the job.
Villa took the decision to sack manager Steve Bruce on Wednesday, bringing an end to his two years in charge after his side threw away a 2-0 lead at home to Preston North End to draw 3-3 on Tuesday night.
After weeks of fan unrest and major speculation, Bruce has gone, and the attention immediately turns to finding a replacement, with a host of names already touted for the position.
Now, the Daily Mail report that Villa have been looking far and wide, and have even discussed offering returns to England for Slaven Bilic and Paulo Sousa.
Bilic, who left West Ham a year ago next month, has just taken over as manager of Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, meaning he would be unlikely to make the move, whilst Sousa left Chinese side Tianjin Quanjian today.
Sousa has a patchy record across his managerial career but particularly in English football with Queens Park Rangers, Swansea City and Leicester City, and whilst he would be an interesting appointment, he would be far from guaranteed success.
The report adds that Villa co-owner Nassef Sawiris has decided that Thierry Henry is the man for the job, and is pushing for Villa to appoint the Frenchman despite him having no managerial experience.
Henry, 41, has been coaching with Belgium but could head to Villa Park, with the report stating that Sawiris was an Arsenal season ticket holder during Henry’s playing days with the Gunners, and wants to lure him to Villa Park as Bruce’s replacement in a fascinating yet risky move.
