Aston Villa are on the hunt for a new manager, and while it’s been less than 48 hours since Steven Gerrard was sacked, the shortlist is already being whittled down.
Indeed, Mauricio Pochettino seems to be out of the picture, as does Thomas Tuchel, but there are still a few top contenders for this job.
Ruben Amorim seems to be the frontrunner at the moment with the Villans reportedly in talks with the 37-year-old, but, once again, this won’t be an easy deal to conclude.
Amorim’s Sporting contract includes a huge compensation fee that reportedly equates to a world-record fee for a manager, so this could be a complex situation to conclude.
However, despite the difficulty around hiring Amorim, Villa still think that he’s a more attainable target than Thomas Frank.

The Mail are reporting that Villa are being told that they have a better chance of landing the ‘fantastic’ Sporting boss than luring Frank away from Brentford.
To be fair, we can understand why.
Frank has a great project that he has built from the ground up at Brentford, and while Villa are more ambitious than the Bees, taking that job at this point would be an unnecessary risk.
Frank’s stock is only going to rise during his time at Brentford as he continues to do a fantastic job, and that should stand him in good stead to get one of Europe’s truly elite jobs eventually.
As for Amorim, Villa is a great stepping stone to the Premier League for him. They’re an ambitious club who will allow him to showcase his abilities in the biggest league in the world, and they’d pay him handsomely, so it’s easy to see why a move to Villa Park would appeal to him.
