Aston Villa are set to make an offer for Ollie Watkins, but it’ll fall some way short of Brentford’s asking price for the striker, the Express and Star report.
Villa have made Watkins one of their top targets, as Dean Smith looks to add a new number nine.
However, his side’s first offer for the forward is not set to meet Brentford’s £25 million valuation of the goalscorer.
Whether Villa’s bid will be a success remains to be seen, but it seems that the claret and blues are looking to try and get some money off, in the battle to land the Championship’s top goalscorer from last season, who was described as ‘top-class’ by Danny Higginbotham in The Sun.
Villa struggled for goals last term, with their options up-front all failing to convince.
Wesley, Aly Samatta and Keinan Davis were all given chances as Smith’s side’s striker, but none of the trio scored prolifically.
Watkins, on the other hand, bagged 26 goals at Championship level, and there are hopes that he could make the step up to the top flight with ease.
