Victor Orta has reportedly chosen to stay with Leeds United over Deportivo La Coruna.

Andrea Radrizzani, Owner of Leeds United (3L) looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Bristol City and Leeds United at Ashton Gate on October 21, 2017 in Bristol, England.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United director of football Victor Orta will be staying at Elland Road, choosing to snub a return to Spain with Deportivo La Coruna.

When Andrea Radrizzani took the reins at Elland Road last summer, he brought in Orta to oversee transfers, despite his patchy record in the transfer market at Middlesbrough.

The Spaniard had worked alongside manager Aitor Karanka to secure promotion, but some of his signings flopped in the Premier League, and he was subsequently freed at the end of last season.

Orta’s record with Leeds hasn’t been much more impressive, with the likes of Felix Wiedwald, Mateusz Klich and Pawel Cibicki some of the notable failures, leading many Leeds fans to call for his exit.

Their wishes appeared to be coming true last week when La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna targeted him for a return to Spain, as the relegation-bound Galicians wanted him to oversee their hopes of returning to the top flight.

However, the Yorkshire Evening Post report that Orta has now decided not to head back to Spain and will instead stay with Leeds, as chairman Radrizzani has backed him to turn things around at Elland Road.

It’s claimed that Radrizzani, Orta and co will also overhaul the club’s transfer policy, focusing more on domestic signings – such as Barnsley duo Andy Yiadom and Oliver McBurnie – rather than targeting the European market quite so fervently, which will hopefully drive Leeds on to a better season next term as fans live in hope that Orta has learnt from his mistakes.
