According to The Glasgow Evening Times, Celtic are expected to sign AEK Athens goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas today.
It’s stated that Celtic raised their bid for Barkas to £5million, and having included a sell-on clause in their offer, they have now reached an agreement.
Barkas is allegedly travelling to Scotland today to sign his deal, and the move should be completed imminently pending a medical.
The Daily Record claim that the terms on offer at Celtic are ‘agreeable’ to Barkas and his representatives, meaning there should be no nasty surprises for the Bhoys.
They have picked out Barkas as the goalkeeper the want to replace Fraser Forster, who won’t be returning to Parkhead after his loan expired.
Instead of going for another loan, Celtic have invested in their stopper for the foreseeable future in 26-year-old Barkas.
The Dutch-born stopper has not only impressed in more than 100 appearances for AEK, but also earned 10 caps for Greece.
A huge figure at 6ft 5in tall, Barkas has the frame that Neil Lennon wanted to replace Forster, and it seems that a deal will be virtually done by the end of the day.
